MWM GmbH is one of the world’s leading suppliers of highly efficient and environmentally-friendly systems for energy production.

The company, based in Mannheim, Germany, can draw on 140 years’ experience in the development and optimisation of combustion engines for natural gas, special gases and diesel. Founded in 1871, the “mechanical workshop” of car inventor Carl Benz was the beginning of MWM.

Now 140 years later, the same halls accommodate the modern manufacturing area where MWM produces its high efficiency and reliable gas and diesel engines.

With its understanding of the added-value chain, its engineering expertise and its innovative ideas, MWM is a dependable partner who can develop and manufacture customised solutions for individual requirements.

Global presence

With over 1,100 employees across 11 subsidiary companies worldwide, the company has focused on ecologically progressive solutions for producing “clean energy”.

To this end, cutting-edge, high-performance products, services and technologies are being developed for decentralised energy supply using gas and diesel engines.

MWM provides worldwide customer service for the installation, servicing and maintenance of systems.

MWM’s markets

MWM is active in four market sectors:

  • In the cogeneration sector, natural gas is used for energy production. MWM is able to provide optimum solutions for individual applications with its gas engine systems, including tri-generation systems which incorporate cooling.
  • The rapidly-growing special gas sector includes biogases and flammable gases emitted during industrial or mining applications or in the extraction of raw materials.
  • The greenhouse segment covers systems for heating and supplying energy for greenhouses as well as the simultaneous fertilisation of the plants using the filtered waste gas.
  • MWM Diesel engines continue to be supplied to remote power station projects in Australia and the Pacific Islands. These engines are used both for traditional standby applications and more specialised data centre projects, complementing the gas engine systems.

Products

The major products produced by MWM GmbH cover two areas:

  • Diesel generators from 500–2,170 kWe
  • Gas generators from 400–4,300 kWe

In the production facility in Germany, MWM produces approximately 1,000 gas and diesel engines a year for power generation customers worldwide.

MWM is able to draw on a great tradition of gas engine research and technical innovation to provide solutions to power generation applications using a range of gases, as well as dual gas and synthetic gas applications.

MWM in Australia

MWM Energy Australia Pty Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the parent company MWM GmbH, and was registered in November 2007 in Victoria.

The MWM business of large gas and diesel engines was originally part of the Deutz Australia business from 1952.

In October 2007, the business split and MWM Energy Australia (MWM) was established.

The company currently employs 18 personnel Australia-wide, spread across the head office based in Melbourne and service branches located in Sydney, New South Wales and Geraldton, Western Australia.

MWM also has a strong support network of competent original equipment manufacturers and generator packagers around Australia to assist with power station design and installation.

Up to now MWM has installed gas and diesel engines with nearly 220 MW capacities in Australia and Oceania in places such as the University of Adelaide, Charlestown Shopping Centre, Darling Walk, the Ark Building or at the Tooheys Brewery.

Most of the recent gas engines sold have been trigeneration building installations, which supply power, heating and cooling. Customers are happy to install reliable and energy-efficient MWM gas engines, which help achieve an environmental building rating, among other benefits.

MWM and FutureGAS

Since the establishment of FutureGAS in 2009, MWM has participated each year as the Event Partner and major sponsor of the event. The exhibition is a great opportunity to meet customers in a relaxed atmosphere and talk about the industry, as well as show the latest developments in and applications of MWM’s gas engines.

MWM is looking forward to being the Event Partner of FutureGAS 2011 and invites everyone to visit their booth. They hope to get the opportunity to meet with you at FutureGAS 2011, at Booth 28.

“If you want to know which gas engine to use, then ask MWM, because we invented gas engines.”
