Australian LNG exports will increase by 13 per cent to 17.5 million tonnes (MMt) in 2009–10 and then by 3 per cent to 18 MMt in 2010–11, according to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics’ (ABARE’s) Australian commodities report.
ABARE cited a full operational year for the fifth train at the North West Shelf (NWS) LNG Plant in 2009-10 and the scheduled start up of the Pluto Gas Project in 2010-11 as responsible for the increased growth forecast.
Although ABARE estimated that the value of Australian LNG exports will fall 24 per cent to $A7.6 billion in 2009–10, it said that Australian LNG export value will rise in 2010–11 as a result of forecast increases in export volumes.
The NWS LNG Plant and the Pluto Gas Project are both located in Western Australia. The Woodside Petroleum-operated onshore NWS LNG Plant is Australia's largest gas plant, while the Pluto Gas Project proposed by Woodside Petroleum involves an initial project design of a LNG production train at the Burrup LNG Park with forecast production of 4.3 MMt/a of LNG.
